#2getherwearebetter BULLETIN BOARDS!

August 2, 2015 By Ashley Schroeder

HELLO!!! Thank you so much for joining us for our #2getherwearebetter linky party!!!  If you are joining us for the first time – WELCOME!! Angie from Lucky Little Learners and I started this linky party because we truly believe that TOGETHER WE ARE BETTER.  When Angie and I put our heads together, lean on each other, bounce ideas back and forth, we bring the BEST out of each other, so we started a linky party that we host on our blogs on the 2nd of every month that brings TEACHERS TOGETHER to share amongst, collaborate with, and INSPIRE one another!

We are so glad you’ve stopped by this month for our newest topic! Grab a notebook and snag some ideas and screen shots because this month we’re talking ALL THINGS BULLETIN BOARDS!!
Who DOESN’T love putting up fresh bulletin boards at the start of a new year?!? Ok, so maybe everyone doesn’t love putting them up as much as I do…. HOWEVER,  I have a bit of a bulletin board tip, trick, strategy, IDEA – if you will – to share with you that I think JUST might make you LOVE designing and creating your bulletin boards even more!! Are you ready for this?!?!
In the last 2 school years, I have found the LOVE for making GIANT fonts and clip art to use on my bulletin boards!! I am a Melonheadz Illustrating addict, and I LOVEEEE my collection of KG Fonts – both of which I use in my TPT creations – so I thought THAT’S IT!! Melonheadz and KG fonts are getting BLOWN UP to plaster all over my classroom on my bulletin boards!! So that’s JUST what I’ve done and what I’m here to show you how to do!! It’s WAY easier than you think!!
First, let’s talk FONTS!!
I LOVE how this KG Wake Me Up font just POPS out on this black background!
Right?! But how big do I make the fonts you ask?! Well, it MIGHT take some trial and error, but I have found that a PERFECT size for a bulletin board heading or even for the subject of an anchor chart works best if you make the font large enough that you only have ONE LETTER PER PAGE!
See? ^^^ GIANT fonts – like 800pt will fit ONE LETTER PER PAGE!  Then, I select a color, print each letter, cut out each letter and LAMINATE!! It takes some time, but just wait until you see some of my final products that I’ll share with you at the end of this post – the fun, GIANT fonts just MAKE the bulletin boards!!
But that’s not all!! I’m also a HUGE fan of including GIANT poster sized clip art and other images on my bulletin boards too! Heck, I didn’t even know there was an OPTION to print poster size until I started trying to figure out how I could get 2 ft tall Melonheadz kidlettes on my teacher desk!!
Check it out!! . . .

So I got this FABULOUS idea the other day to add GIANNNNNT brag tag images {if you don’t know what brag tags are – check out Angie’s fabulous post HERE}  to my Brag Tag bulletin board!  Brag tags are itty bitty y’all.  Like – 2 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches perhaps.  And I wanted to make GIANT POSTER SIZE ONES to add as accents to my brag tag bulletin board!

LOOK HOW GIANT THEY TURNED OUT compared to what brag tags ACTUALLY are!!

Aren’t they FABULOUS?!?! I mean, what PERFECT accents to a bulletin board for brag tags?! – GIANT BRAG TAGS!!! LOVE!!
PLUS it was SO super easy!! Here’s how to do it!!

First you want to enlarge the smaller image that you are enlarging AND center it on the page.  I’ve done this with brag tags, clip art, etc.  No matter what you’re making large, be sure to fill the page with the image and center it! See below – I made those itty bitty brag tags the size of the page and centered them for EASY poster assembly a bit later in this post! . . .

Next! – if you’re using power point or keynote {like me!}, you’ll want to save or export your image as a PDF so it’s ready to print!

But wait!! Don’t go and hit file>print just yet!! You have to print it POSTER SIZE!!
Do you see the (a) blue lit button that says POSTER in the printing options!? CLICK THAT!! Then you can make the image GIANT by changing the size (b) and it will show you a (c) thumbnail of the pages and how many pages will be used (that you will tape/glue/seal together) to make your POSTER!! I choose to make mine 100% and it used 2 pages of printer paper.  See the dotted line in the thumbnail?(c)  Then hit PRINT!!
Once they’re printer, you just have to cut and put them together! I honestly just use scotch tape to lay each piece together and then I send them through the laminator!

I mean seriously!!! LOOK AT THESE GIANT FONTS AND BRAG TAGS!! Do they just pull this bulletin board into OMG I LOVE IT status or WHAT?!

Check out those GIANT brag tags accenting the bottom of my brag tag board!! And those GIANT Melonheadz kidlettes over there in the corner! AREN’T YOU IN LOVE?!?! I AM!!!
Are you ready to see a few of my FINAL products of my bulletin boards for which I’ve used giant fonts and clip art?!?!

Here is my brand new brag tag board!

The brag tags are by my bloggy bestie Angie at Lucky Little Learners.
I got the toolbox at Lowe’s πŸ™‚
The labels on the toolbox are in my store here:
Chains are ordered from imagestuff.com
Cute kiddo clip art is by Melonheadz.
Font is KG Wake me Up πŸ™‚

Here’s my welcome back to school hallways bulletin board!

“to 2nd grade” font: MTF Jumpin Jack
kiddos, pencil, and apple clip art: Melonheadz
giant composition book clip art: Ashley Hughes

2nd grade font: KG Wake me Up
ROCKS font: MTF Jumpin Jack

Seriously y’all.  Don’t those large fonts and giant clipart just MAKE YOU SMILE?!?! I can’t wait to do that with even MORE of my bulletin boards – or even on my classroom DOOR all year long!! LOVE!!
I have since done a Periscope about making my clip art and fonts huge that seemed to be helpful to many! Here is that video!!

Awesome post!! I too had posted about enlarging clip art to decorate my desk, but I love how you added it to other places around your room. You have to talk to your principal about investing in a poster printer. It has been a life saver! No more lining things up and taping and gluing πŸ™‚
